Attendance

Every Day Counts

At East Columbus Elementary, attendance is a priority. Breakfast begins at 8:30 a.m., school starts promptly at 9:00 a.m., and students are considered tardy after 9:05 a.m.. Dismissal begins at 3:15 p.m. Being at school every day — and on time — is essential for your child’s success. Strong attendance helps students build routines, stay connected to their teachers and peers, and make steady academic progress. When students miss time, they miss learning.

Excused Absences

Please use the attendance email to report absences. Submit absence and doctor’s notes by taking a photo of the document or scanning it and attaching it to the email. The attendance email is checked daily. If your child becomes sick at school, a responsible adult will need to pick him/her up within 30 minutes. We ask that students not be signed out between 3:00 and 3:30 p.m. A valid state driver’s license or ID is required to pick up a student and to be inside the school.

Absences are marked excused for the following reasons:

  • Serious accident or illness
  • Death of a relative
  • Religious holiday
